The Montreal Auto Show: Buick, Chevrolet and GMC Offer a Glimpse of the Future
February 27 2023, Christin Automobile
The 78th International Auto Show in Montreal took place in January 2023. General Motors was the only American manufacturer present, but it wasn’t afraid to show all it’s preparing for car enthusiasts.
Read on with your Montreal dealership to discover everything that Buick, Chevrolet and GMC had to show at the Montreal Auto Show, and what it means for the future of these brands.
Electric Cars at the 2023 Montreal Auto Show
For many people, electric cars are the future of the automobile industry. The manufacturers operating under the General Motors name are not an exception to this rule.
The Ultium technology that GM gladly shares with each of its divisions was emphasized during the Montreal Auto Show.
“Ultium” is the name that the automobile manufacturer gives to its batteries and vehicle platform that are designed to revolutionize the world of electric cars.
It seems to be working, since even Honda is doing business with GM to use its Ultium platform on its first electric vehicles.
The electric Hummer, which was in the spotlight at the Montreal Car Show, was built using this technology, but it’s far from being the only vehicle with this platform.
In fact, the Auto Show displayed three other vehicles, all built using Ultium technology:
- The Chevrolet Silverado EV
- The Chevrolet Equinox EV
- The Cadillac Lyriq
Buick also had its concept vehicle, the Buick Wildcat electric, on display.
In short, the Buick, GMC and Chevrolet brands were able to give us a glimpse of their future, which promises to be electrifying.
Buick Wildcat: What It’s Showing Us About the Future
The Buick Wildcat, the electric coupé that the automobile manufacturer proudly put on display at the Montreal Car Show is more an idea than a car.
In fact, it will probably never make it as a production car. Instead, it’s a symbol of the direction that the next Buick vehicles are going to take, both in terms of performance and style.
It’s been two years now since Buick produced a vehicle that was not an SUV. The Wildcat could represent a return to the roots for this automobile manufacturer.
The Wildcat also represents the electrification of Buick. The manufacturer has already announced that its first electric vehicle will be on our roads in 2024, and we can hardly wait until then.
GMC Hummer EV: A Good Demonstration for Ultium
If the Wildcat model is just a concept that represents the future of the brand, the electric Hummer is truly real, and you could end up driving one sooner than you think.
To better adapt to your needs, this new Hummer model is offered as a pick-up or as an SUV.
Built on the Ultium platform, the Hummer EV has two new tools that propel its agility and off-road capacities to new heights.
First, the Crabwalk mode, which has the 4-wheel steer system turn all four wheels in the same direction. In short, this allows the new GMC Hummer to move diagonally, like a crab.
Next, the Extract Mode allows you to raise your vehicle nearly 6 inches higher.
This additional height makes it possible for the electric Hummer to clear obstacles more easily, when it would otherwise have some difficulties because of low clearance.
Lastly, GMC announced its Hummer EV can generate up to 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque.
When we see all these innovations, it’s not surprising that the electric Hummer occupies so much space among the cars featured in Montreal.
Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon: Refreshed for 2023
Electric vehicles were not the only vehicles featured at the Auto Show. Mid-size pickups also had a prominent place in the exhibition.
The Chevrolet Colorado and the GMC Canyon will receive a lot of innovations on their respective new model.
First, both of them have the all-new 2.7 L turbocharged engine, similar to the Silverado and Sierra. It delivers an impressive 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
Moreover, off-road driving enthusiasts will rejoice: The Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and GMC Sierra AT4X have been added to these trucks’ lineup to offer you a new all-terrain experience.
If all these innovations interest you and you want to be part of the future that these manufacturers are proposing, don’t hesitate to come and visit us today at Christin Automobile, your Chevrolet dealership in Montreal, close to Repentigny and Laval.
