GMC Hummer EV: An Electric Revolution
When you hear the name Hummer, you certainly consider an imposing and powerful legend, but you also perceive a high-fuel economy legend. In 2022, the Hummer is back with a new 100% electric concept and performance to match.
Find out more about the new GMC Hummer EV, which impresses with striking power and capabilities as well as advanced technologies.
Hummer, Still Outstanding
With its remarkable military history, the Hummer has always been associated with larger-than-life size, and it still is. The Hummer EV Canada pickup truck will be the first on the market, expected later this year.
Afterwards, an SUV will be introduced in 2023 and is expected to hit our roads in 2024. Here are the announced dimensions for both models:

There’s also a generous proportion of space and room for both front and rear passengers.
The electric car rides on 35 or even 37-inch tires, which are primarily intended for off-road trails. Moreover, the air suspension is not only powerful, but also adjustable, and can be raised by 15 cm to handle rough road conditions.
For an optimal outdoor experience, its roof includes 4 removable panels! These can be stored in the front compartment, a space left by the absence of a combustion engine.
GMC Hummer EV: 1,000 horsepower
The first number that impresses when you hear about this new electric Hummer is definitely its maximum power. We’re talking about 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque for the Edition 1! This version is equipped with 3 electric engines, one in the front and two in the back.
Despite weighing 4,100 kg, this massive vehicle will be able to reach a speed of 0 to 97 km/h in only 3 seconds. Like most electric vehicles, it can be driven with a single pedal. Antoine Joubert, a journalist for Le Guide de l’auto pointed out after his first test drive:
“Another surprising observation is this great ease in making tight turns,
thanks to rear wheels pivoting in the opposite direction of the front wheels.
It’s as if the vehicle is small and maneuverable.”
Indeed, the vehicle has four directional wheels for remarkable maneuverability. In addition, between the different driving modes, you can even opt for the Crab Walk technology that allows the vehicle to move diagonally by tilting all four wheels at the same angle!
100% Electric Hummer: Remarkable Autonomy
The engine of the new Hummer will be powered by a battery technology called Ultium, a block with 24 cells. Thanks to this battery, the vehicle will be able to travel up to 560 km on a single charge. The regenerative braking technology will also optimize the energy efficiency.
Even more interesting, it will be possible to recharge the battery with a 350 kW charge, which will give it 160 km of autonomy in only 10 minutes. If you don’t have time to waste or if autonomy makes you hesitant about electric vehicles, this is definitely one of the most practical ones.
Hummer EV Interior: Advanced Technologies
When you open the doors, the Hummer EV interior is not only spacious, but also packed with advanced technologies. These include:
- 12.3-inch digital instrumentation
- 13.4-inch touch screen
- Exclusive 14-speaker Bose sound system
- Super Cruise technology
This allows you to let go of the steering wheel on the road and let the vehicle do the work; even lane changes can be automated!
More than that, available features like the UltraVision system allow you to see not only around your electric Hummer, but even underneath it with a large number of water-resistant cameras.
With its 1,000 horsepower and Extreme Off-Road package, it’s the Edition 1 version that will first see the light of day in late 2022. However, lower-priced versions of the GMC Hummer EV price, starting at $88,898, will be offered with two or three engines.
